CMC has approved the construction of a total of 75 retaining walls in various areas of Madikeri town. This requires a grant of Rs. 13 crore, and a proposal has been submitted to the central government through the municipal council, said Madikeri Municipal Council Administrator and Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Venkat Raja.
The Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) presented the savings budget for the year 2025-26 a few days ago, and the DC participated in the discussion on the budget and informed about this.
Speaking at the meeting, Municipal Council member Mansur requested the Deputy Commissioner to allocate more funds in the budget for the construction of retaining walls in various parts of the Town. Responding to this, City Municipal Council Administrator, Venkat Raja said that approval has already been given for the construction of retaining walls in 75 places. Funds for this need to be obtained from the NDRF fund. In this context, he informed during the meeting, that a proposal has been submitted to the central government through letter correspondence.
He further said that the Rajakaluve( Storm Water Drains) need to be concretized. 6 km of the Rajakaluve passes through the city, and 1.6 km has already been concretized. He informed that Rs. 1 crore has been allocated for the concretization of the remaining Storm Water Drains.
The main pipeline supplying water to Madikeri has been broken, and those who have received the tender for the work are delaying to commence the work. The work should be start immediately and order has to be given to contractor regarding this, otherwise, the people of the city will face water problems. He drew the attention of the meeting to the fact that the contractors should be blacklisted. Responding to this, Municipal Commissioner Ramesh said that instructions have already been given to start the work.
Other issues discussed in the meeting included the auction of the municipal shop building, removal of unpaid advertising boards, auction process of sheep, chicken, fish stalls, levy of property tax, installation of street lights, Amrut-2 project, delay in internal sewerage work, study tour of members and other issues. On this occasion, the members approved the list of urgent works presented by the Municipal Commissioner.
Administrator Venkat Raja informed the members to fix a date for the election of the Madikeri Municipal Council President and Vice President. Responding to this, the members requested Administrator to fix a date by himself. Reacting to this, the DC said that, If he fixes a date, some members oppose it .Therefore,DC requested members to decide and fix a date themselves. Responding to this, the members again requested the DC to fix a date himself , and the members will not oppose it.
The DC then fixed the date for the election on April 8th or 9th and informed that all members will be given a notice regarding this in one week in advance. All the members agreed with DC’s decision.
