Chendanda emerge as winners…Nellamakkada declared runners up.
Exciting finals of Kundyolanda Hockey Festival was held between Chendanda and Nellamakkada team at Napoklu General Thimayya Stadium. An even fight from both the teams resulting in a penalty shoot where Chendanda team won against Nellamakkada team by 8-7 goals.
The winning team was awarded with the trophy and cash prize. This is the 3rd win for Chendanda team in Kodava family hockey festival. For the third place Kulletirateam beat Kuppandateam by 3-2 goals.
Despite the heat thousands of hockey fans cheered for their favourite teams in the final match. The Kundyolanda Hockey Festival was held very successfully for 30 days in cooperation with Kodava Hockey Academy. Kundyolanda Hockey Tournament was recorded by participation of more than 3000 hockey players from 360 families.
Kundyolanda A Anaiah, Kundyolanda family Pattedar presided over the programme. A S Ponnanna, Virajpet MLA inaugurated the prize distribution ceremony, while convener Dinesh Cariappa spoke on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, A S Ponnanna informed that a five-acre land is earmarked for Hockey Academy in Thora, and added that all sports lovers should join hands to encourage all sports persons in Kodagu and said that it is all our responsibilities to take Kodagu in sports to a greater height.
It was also announced that the Kundyolanda Cup family hockey tournament entered the Guinness Book of World Records after enrolling 360 families in the tournament. Guinness Book of Records committee member Swapnil made the official announcement and presented the certificate to the Kundyolanda Family in the presence of Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja.
Participation of 32 women players, a five-year-old boy and a 90-year-old man are also the highlights of the tournament. Next year silver jubilee of the tournament will be held under the supervision of Muddanda family in Madikeri, informed Kodava hockey Academy president Pandanda Bopanna.
Enforcement Directorate Deputy Director Dr Kottangada Pemmaiah also spoke on the occasion and said that sports help to maintain good health.

CLN has gathered information that the Kundyolanda Family has only 103 members including 6 children and 8 members above the age of 75, and to conduct a hockey festival of this magnitude is really commendable. Kudos to the Kundyolanda Family members.
