A mock disaster demonstration was conducted at Harangi Reservoir on Thursday.15th May to illustrate rescue procedures aimed at safeguarding individuals, livestock, and property in the event of a calamity.
The exercise, carried out under the guidance of the Central and State Governments, involved the participation of officers and personnel from various departments. Over 200 staff members representing Revenue, Police, Health and Family Welfare, Fire Service, Home Guard, and Major Irrigation collaborated with the District Administration, Police Department, and other relevant agencies in this endeavor.
The mock operation highlighted the crucial aspects of protecting citizens and administering first aid during emergencies, as well as ensuring the safety of both rescue personnel and those affected. Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja emphasized the paramount importance of protecting people, livestock, and property, and stressed the necessity of inter-departmental coordination. He further noted the significance of adhering to the government’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when addressing disasters.
District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan underscored the need for emergency responders to prioritize their own safety alongside that of others, advocating for calm and decisive action during rescue efforts.
The demonstration witnessed the active involvement of Madikeri DySP Suraj, Tahsildar Kiran Gouraiah, Krishnamurthy, District Disaster Management Expert Ananya Vasudev, Fire Officer Rajesh, Taluk Health Officer Dr. Indudhar, Home Guards Trainer Akshay, Harangi Reservoir Executive Engineer Puttaswamy, and numerous officers and staff from the Revenue, Police, Fire, Health and Family Welfare departments.
