The Kodagu Press Club held its Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony at Pathrika Bhavan. Special Officer (Examinations) of Kodagu University Mechira Ravishankar Nanaiah highlighted the critical role of the media in combatting fake news and restoring societal values.
SNDP President T.R. Vasudev emphasized journalists’ role in social development, while Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa, Vice President of Karnataka Working Journalists Association, cited impactful journalism that led to real change-like Ismail Kandakare’s report, which resulted in a new home being built for a local woman.
Press Club President Bollajira B. Aiyappa praised Kodagu journalists and encouraged young talent to enter the field.
Awardees included:
H.J. Rakesh – Best Reporting (K.B. Mahantesh Memorial), K.M. Ismail Kandakare – Best Humanitarian Reporting and Anand Kodagu – Best Environmental Reporting. Each winner received Rs 5,000 and a plaque. Judges were Prof. Nayana Kashyap, Karunakar, and Monica.
Other journalists including K.M.Ismail Kandakare, K. Shashi Somaiah, E.R. Vishwakumar, B Anu Cariappa, P.V. Akshay, and E.R.Vishwakumar and U.M.Jayathi, were honored for state-level journalism awards.
