A road safety run was recently held in Madikeri with the aim of motivating people to follow road safety rules to reduce the number of road accidents. Road safety run was held in association with the District Administration, District Police Department, National Highways Authority of India, Mind and Matter and Muddanda Cup Hockey Festival Committee. The awareness was created by running from Field Marshal Cariappa Circle, Madikeri to the Muddanda Hockey Festival Ground by holding awareness placards on road safety.
More than 140 people, including the general public, members of various organisations, department officials, staff, school and college students, participated in the run and created awareness.
M.A. Deepika, Mind and Matter Trustee , speaking on the occasion at Field Marshal Cariappa Circle, explained the road safety rules. Deepika also said that two-wheeler riders must wear helmets while driving and informed that not wearing seat belts while driving a car is the main reason for accidents.
Muddanda Cup Hockey Festival Committee President Muddanda Rashin Subbaiah said that the cause of accidents is the lack of awareness and negligence among the common people about traffic rules. He recalled an incident in which a boy lost his life due to negligence of the rules. He appealed to everyone to follow the traffic rules while driving.
