Mysore and Kodagu constituency MP Yaduveer Wodeyar, speaking after inaugurating the Nescafe Kodagu Cup Hockey Finals held at the Gonikoppa Cauvery College grounds recently said that sports contribute to social unity and building a healthy society and called for making good use of the central government’s Khelo India and Fit India schemes.
Speaking further, MP Yaduveer Wodeyar said that Kodagu has become a model for other districts by encouraging various sports including hockey, cricket, and football.
By participating in sports events all together, regardless of caste or religion, it will help in maintaining the good and unity of the society. This has also made it possible to build a healthy society.
Kodagu district has contributed many sports talents to the Indian hockey team. It is commendable that the organizers are voluntarily organizing sports events with the aim of encouraging athletes. He assured that the Central Government will provide cooperation to hold all sports events, including hockey, on a large scale in the coming days.
The Central Government is committed to realizing the idea of a developed India through the Khelo India and Fit India schemes by continuously encouraging athletes and this is also the goal of the Prime Minister Modi, said MP Yaduveer Wadiyar.
The organisers of the Nescafe Kodagu Cup Hockey Festival Committee and athletes were present on the occasion.
In the final match of the Nescafe Kodagu Hockey Cup, Murnadu Base Hockey Club won the championship title by defeating Botyatnad Kunda team in the final match. Botyatnad Kunda team, which had performed well throughout the tournament, settled for the runner-up position.
