Dr J R Paramesh, instructor, Disaster Management Centre, Mysuruspeaking at a workshop at the District Training Institute at Madikeri recently said that all departments must work in coordination, and disaster management committee meetings should be held in all gram panchayats of the district in order to effectively tackle natural disasters, said
He said that the recommendations by the geologists of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) with regard to landslide and flood prone areas should be implemented. Casualties caused by natural calamities can be minimized by keeping people updated with weather forecasts.
He also said that the care centres should be identified and measures be taken to ensure the availability of medicines and treatment equipment in disaster prone areas and added that steps should be taken to ensure that the treatment for infectious diseases, especially during the rainy season, is available at all health centres, as advised by the health department.
District Disaster Management expert Ananya Vasudev and District Administrative Training Institute Principal B Madappa and others were present at the workshop.
