Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharana Prakash Patila visited Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KoIMS) College recently and interacted with the students. The students raised many issues before the minister on the occasion.
The medical students spoke about the fact that the medical college and the hospital are very far away and they are facing a difficult situation on a daily basis due to lack of adequate bus facilities and demanded that more bus facilities should be provided in this regard.  Â
Studying and gathering information is very difficult without internet connection. The existing Wi-Fi service does not extend to one or two rooms. Therefore, the students requested that the tower should be constructed.Â
Commenting on this, Medical Education Minister Dr. R. Sharan Prakash Patila directed the officials to extend the Wi-Fi service. The minister gave strict instructions to take necessary steps to increase the bus facilities to the medical students.
He said that as it is a hilly area, some deficiencies have to be faced and necessary infrastructure will be provided as much as possible to the students.Â
One medical student pointed out that there is no playground to play any games in the medical college premises. Responding to this minister instructed the officials concerned to provide necessary space for playing games such as basketball, volleyball, as there is not much space available for a regular playground.Â
MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda, who intervened and spoke on this occasion, said that necessary cooperation will be given to construct at least 100X100 playground in the college premises.  Â
Students shed light on the drinking water connection in the medical college which is not adequate and during the summer, the situation was very worst, they complained.Â
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mantar Gowda said that as the college of KoIMS comes under the Gram Panchayat (GP), water connection has been established under the Jaljeevan Mission project. MLA instructed the officials to drill a new borewell at  suitable place in the premises as soon as possible.Â
A BSc nursing student said that a separate hostel isneeded for nursing students and informed minister that at present without hostel for nursing student they werefacing lot of inconvenience.A student requested that the posts of instructors in nursing education are vacant and it should be filled at the earliest.Â
MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda informed that BSC nursing students can be accommodated in BCM hostel.
A student pointed out that there was a problem without a provision store in the college premises of the KoIMS. Reacting to this, the minister suggested to allow KMF store to start operating.
A doctor brought to the attention of the minister that NHM had not paid their salaries for the last four months. On the occasion Director of Medical Education Department, Sujatha Rathore, informed that necessary action will be taken to pay the salary.Â
Speaking to reporters later, the Minister of Medical Education, Dr. Sharan Prakash Patila, said that this time, 29 students have been admitted to the postgraduate studies in the KoIMS.
Responding to a journalist’s question about NEET, the minister said that no one should flirt with the students and it is everyone’s responsibility to do justice to the students. Earlier, the exam was conducted in the state through CET as a model for the entire country. Now a single examination is being conducted at the Centre as directed by the Supreme Court, the minister added.
A suitable security has been made to Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences College. Grievances of students will be redressed as soon as possible and added that be made to build a good campus, the minister said.
Before the interaction, the minister listened to the grievances of the students in the premises of the medical college and gathered information from the students regarding the teaching, library system and further development of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences.   Â
On the same occasion, the minister launched the construction of ‘Medicinal Plantation’ under the National Service Scheme in the premises of Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences College.Â
