Slaughtering of Indian Gaur…man held

A man identified is Haris (43), a resident of Emmemadu who had poached and slaughtered an Indian Gaur was held recently by forest department officials after chasing him for 10 km at Appangala in Madikeri taluk.

Another suspect has escaped. The officials seized the head of the Indian Gaur along with 500 kg of meat. Five people are suspected to have poached and slaughtered the Indian Gaur.

On noticing the suspicious movement of a vehicle at Makkandoor, officials asked the vehicle to stop but the vehicle paid no heed, DCF Bhaskar said. Suspecting something fishy, officials chased the vehicle for 10 km and waylaid it at Appangala, he added.

It is said that the gang had killed the Indian Gaur by shooting it six times. The investigation is in progress.
