The mango and jackfruit fair which is being organised jointly by the Kodagu district Hopcoms and Horticulture Department will be held on the district Hopcoms office premises in Madikeri from May 24 to 26.
District Hopcoms president Biddatanda Ramesh Changappa has said that the growers will be provided a platform to sell their produce and consumers from Kodagu will get a variety of mangoes. Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Venkat Raja will inaugurate the fair.Â
He said that Hopcoms has been procuring fruits and vegetables from farmers and selling it to the customers. There are 1,333 members in Hopcoms in the district and has been posting profit for the last few years.Â
Vice President Mallanda Madhu Devaiah said that the percentage of mango growers in the state has come down by 40%. To promote the fruit, mango fairs are organised at various locations in the state. About 10 to 15 varieties of mangoes will be available for the residents in Kodagu during the fair. In addition to mangoes, the fair will have grafted plants and jackfruits.
