Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Venkat Raja speaking recently at the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting at his office Hall in Madikeri recently said that monsoon in the District is likely to commence in the first week of June in Kodagu district directed officials to take necessary precautionary measures in case of heavy rains.
DC also said that since the Meteorological Department is giving information about rain forecast time to time and the same information should be informed at the local level and necessary precautionary measures must also be taken to control natural damages during heavy rain fall.
Dr Venkat Raja informed that nodal officers have already been assigned about their work and advised Tahsildars, TPEOs and others to work jointly with responsibility. He also instructed schools, colleges and anganwadi buildings should be kept in good condition to open a relief/care centre and perform other work if required. Regarding agriculture, the sowing seeds and fertilizers required by the district should be stocked and suggested that care should be taken not to cause any inconvenience to the farmers during monsoon.
DC also instructed the fire brigade to be well equipped with necessary safety equipment in the emergency situations. He also said that measures should be taken to make the Home Guard personnel available for emergency services. The DC instructed CHESOM Executive Engineer (EE) that if there is a power failure, it should be rectified immediately and also repair the electric wires immediately and to take care not to cause any loss of life due to fall of electric wires.
Speaking on the occasion CHESOM AEE Vinay kumar informed that already 75-line men are on duty in the district and added that necessary electric poles and transformers have been stocked.
DC Venkat Raja informed that coordination between Revenue, CHESOM, Forest, Public Works, Rural Drinking Water and Supply Departments which is very important and advised all to work properly.
He also directed that task force committee meetings should be held at gram panchayat and taluk level to make necessary preparations to deal with natural calamities.
Speaking on the occasion ZP CEO Varnith Negi informed that more precautions should be taken at the village panchayat level in flood and landslide prone areas where the local authorities should provide information to the public from time to time, he added.
Somasundara, Joint Director of Agriculture Department, informed that the sufficient seed and fertilizer required for the district were in stock.
E E Siddegowda of Public Works Department informed that more attention will be paid to road maintenance during monsoon.
