Sri Kote Mahaganapati Temple tableaux wins first place

Sri Kote Mahaganapati Temple tableaux took the first position, Sri Kote Mariamma Temple tableaux won second place and Sri Dandina Mariamma Temple tableaux won the third position in the Dasha Mantapa procession held on occasion of Vijayadashami in Madikeri which attracted a very large number of gathering.

Amid the thousands of people gathered on the darkness Vijayadashami night the exciting mantapas from various temples of the Madikeri, the works of art displayed based on the story line of the mythological background attracted a large number of audiences.

The procession of Dashamantapas started with the tableau of Sri Pete Rama Mandir. This Temple has an history of participating in the procession for over 160 years on Vijayadashami day and starts its journey from temple around 7.30pm every year. It showcased the story of Vishnu’s Matsya Avatara in its tableau which attracted many for its simplicity.

Many were astonished by the colorful Dashamantapas procession and enjoyed by dancing. The tourists watched the mythological stories displayed in the Dasha mantapas.

Dechuru Sri Ram Temple displayed “Kalinga Mardhana,” the Dandina Mariamma Temple showcased “Kaushika Mahatme,” the Chowdeshwari Temple presented “ArunasuraVadhe,” the Kanchi Kamakshi Temple depicted “Sindhoora Ganapathi,” the Chowti Mariamma Temple represented “Kadamba Kaushike,” the Kodandaram Temple showed “Ravana’s slaying by Rama,” and the Kote Mariamma Temple illustrated “Krishna’s Childhood Leelas, Kamsa Vadhe.” The Kote Mahaganapati Temple showcased “Ajagara-ShalabhasuraVadhe,” while the Karavale Bhagavati Temple presented the tale of “KollurMookambike” in their tableau

The Dasamantapas presented their shows in various locations as per their schedules in respective places including Gandhi Maidan, in front of the Anjaneya Temple, in front of the Kodava Samaja, in front of Hotel Popular, in toll gate near petrol bunk, in front of TMC, near Metro Fresh, in front of the KSRTC bus station, in front of the city police station, and in front of the Sindoor clothing store.

Around 2,000 police personnel were deployed for security during the Vijayadashami, procession “Special security teams were also formed ‘Jumbo teams’ consisting of 15 personnel led by a sub-inspector have been formed. A total of eight such teams were deployed to watch on troublemakers, who harass women or behave indecently. The were deployed from Rajaseat to Gandhi Maidan, where crowds gathering was more, and also at M M Circle, G T Circle, Janata Bazaar, old private bus stand, IG Circle, SBI Junction, KSRTC bus stand and at Market Junction Mahadevapete.”

The services of ‘Cheetah’ mobile cops were also used in isolated areas to prevent crimes, “Over 800 CCTV cameras were installed across the town.  Also, there were bomb detection, and dog squads. Checkpostswere set up at 11 places, including city’s outskirts, to prevent liquor being brought to city. The KSRTC buses were prohibited from entering the bus stand after 3 pm.

Prizes were distributed at the Gandhi Maidan. Dissatisfied with the decision of the Shobhayatra of  DashaMantaps, the office bearers of Karavale Sri Bhagwati Mahishamardhini Temple Committee expressed their anguish and protested at Gandhi Maidan later police take control of the situation.
