Significant Success for MP Yaduveer Wadiyar’s Persistent Efforts

The continuous efforts of Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar to preserve Kodagu’s rich historical and cultural heritage have yielded significant results, with the Central Government extending support for the preservation and comprehensive development of the historic Madikeri Palace.

Acting upon representations submitted by Yaduveer Wadiyar and following sustained follow-up with the Ministry of Culture, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has officially announced that Madikeri Palace has been declared a protected monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.

In a communication addressed to the MP, the Union Minister stated that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is exploring various options for the holistic development of Madikeri Palace. As part of these plans, a proposal is also under consideration for establishing a modern site museum featuring digital exhibits to enhance the visitor experience and encourage greater public engagement. The proposed museum is expected to play a vital role in effectively showcasing the rich history, culture and heritage of Kodagu to future generations and tourists alike.

The development follows a detailed representation submitted by Yaduveer Wadiyar to the Ministry of Culture on March 18, 2025, in which he strongly advocated granting protected monument status to Madikeri Palace and establishing a museum within the historic premises.

Recognising the palace’s historical and cultural significance, Yaduveer Wadiyar consistently pursued the matter with the Central Government and ASI authorities. As part of the process, senior ASI officials conducted a site inspection in coordination with the district administration, and suggestions put forward by the MP have been incorporated into future development plans.

Reacting to the announcement, Yaduveer Wadiyar expressed happiness that the long-standing demand for the preservation and development of Madikeri Palace was now moving towards implementation.

He reiterated his commitment to transforming Madikeri Palace into a major heritage and tourism destination that reflects the glorious history of Kodagu while simultaneously creating educational and tourism opportunities for future generations.
