A Job Card Mela will be held across the district for one month, until September 15, under the newly implemented Vikasita Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Ajeevik Mission Grameen-2026 scheme, which has replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, said Kodagu Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena.

A job card fair will be held in 102 gram panchayats of the district for one month. He said that rural residents should take advantage of the opportunity.

Under the VBG Ramji scheme, community-based and individual works are permitted. He said that a total of 318 works are permitted, including individual wells, cattle sheds and chicken sheds.

Under the previous NREGA scheme, a rural family was provided with 100 days of employment in a financial year. Under the new VBG Ramji scheme, 125 days of employment can be provided, he said.

The Gram Panchayats have already submitted action plans as per the rules, and they have been approved. Works have started in the district under the VBG Ram Ji scheme, and a daily wage of Rs. 382 has been fixed for rural residents, he said. If a job demand is submitted in Form-6, employment will be provided by the Gram Panchayat within 15 days. He advised the people of rural areas in Kodagu to take advantage of this opportunity.

In order to successfully organize the Job Card Mela across the district, district-level officers have been appointed as nodal officers for five taluks. He informed that rural residents who wish to obtain a job card, get work and undertake work under the VBG Ram Ji scheme can contact the Gram Panchayat office under their jurisdiction.

Box: As part of the Job Card Mela, a Job Card Mela and door-to-door visit programme was organized on 20-08-2026 in Torenuru Gram Panchayat of Kushalnagar Taluk under the Developed India – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Gramin) scheme. During the programme, farmers were informed about the individual and community works available under the VBG-Ram Ji scheme.
