Farmers Advised Against Long-Term Crops in Harangi Command Area

Farmers in the Harangi reservoir command area have been advised not to cultivate long-term crops relying solely on canal water this season. Instead, they are encouraged to grow semi-dry crops dependent on rainfall, according to Harangi Project Circle Superintendent Engineer Sathish.  Due to uncertain inflow levels into the reservoir, the water release schedule may be revised if required. Sathish clarified that the Kaveri Neeravari Nigama will not be responsible for crop losses resulting from any changes in water availability.

Currently, water is being released to canals from July 17 to August 1 for replenishing water bodies in the catchment area. From August 2 to 14, water will be provided for kharif cultivation, he added. The guidelines were discussed during a Harangi Reservoir Advisory Committee meeting, chaired by MLA Dr Mantar Gowda in Bengaluru.
