The Police Department is performing its duties in a public-friendly manner, and members of the public can provide information to the department whenever necessary, said Kodagu District Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani. She added that resolving the issues of Scheduled Castes within the prescribed time was among the top priorities of the department.
The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Grievance Meeting concerning the Police Department was held at the District Superintendent of Police Office Hall in Madikeri recently.
Speaking after presiding over the meeting, the SP said that 237 cases relating to the sale, consumption and other drug-related offences had been registered in the district during the past eight months, and 333 accused persons had been arrested.
She said that the Police Department was creating greater awareness in various places, including Haadi areas, to ensure that people did not fall prey to drug addiction and could lead productive lives as members of society.
She added that meetings were being held every month at police stations with plantation owners and that greater attention was being paid to labourers arriving from outside the State.
Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, committee member Janardhan J.L. of Kodlipete alleged that liquor was being sold without a licence in Kodlipete and other places on Saturdays and requested the authorities to monitor the matter.
Senior police officer I.P. Medappa presented the compliance report of the previous meeting. H.L. Diwakar of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti also spoke.
