The Coorg Wildlife Society (CWS), represented by Mr. Naveen Bopaiah, highlighted the growing hardships faced by farmers due to human-elephant conflict during an interaction with Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy on measures to mitigate human-elephant conflict and strengthen conflict management on September 8, 2026.
Bopaiah was given a five-minute slot to present the ground realities and concerns faced by communities living in areas affected by elephant movement.
During his address, he highlighted the serious challenges confronting farmers in the fringe areas of the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, adjoining landscapes and areas bordering the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. He also presented key findings from an in-depth study conducted by CWS over the past two months on the human-elephant conflict situation in Kodagu.
The study examines the issues faced by farmers and communities living in conflict-prone areas and provides insights into the nature and scale of the problem.
The findings and recommendations of the study have been submitted to the authorities, providing a comprehensive account of the escalating human-elephant conflict in Kodagu and highlighting the need for effective and long-term mitigation measures.

We have encroached on their traditional migration or forage routes.If only we can provided some banana or coconut trees along the route or a pond with lillys they will not disturb human settlements.
