Authorities have issued a flood warning for residents living along the Harangi and Kaveri River basins, as the Harangi Reservoir nears its maximum capacity due to continued heavy inflow.
According to a statement from the Executive Engineer of the Harangi Rehabilitation Department, water levels in the reservoir have been steadily rising due to intense rainfall in the catchment areas. With the India Meteorological Department predicting further heavy rainfall in and around the Harangi region, the situation is expected to worsen, necessitating the release of excess water from the reservoir into the river at any moment.
Residents living along the banks of the Kaveri River have been urged to remain alert and take precautionary measures. The public is advised to safeguard their belongings, relocate livestock, and move to higher ground or safer locations as a preventive step.
“It is raining heavily in the Harangi surroundings. The inflow is likely to increase significantly, and the dam is expected to reach its highest storage level soon,” the official statement read.
