During the ‘District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee’ meeting held at Madikeri Zilla Panchayat Hall recently, M P Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja directed the concerned engineer to complete the work undertaken under the Jaljeevan Mission project by June end.
The government’s objective is to provide clean drinking water to every family under the Jaljeevan Mission project. In this regard, the MP demanded that the pending work must be completed at the earliest.
The MP informed concerned officials to visit and inspect the site the various works, including the Jaljeevan Mission project.
The MLC Suja Kushalappa lamented that the implementation of JJM project has been delayed. He requested that it be completed without any further delays.
Nagesh Kundalpady, a member of the District Development Coordination and Supervision Committee, supported the views of MLC Suja Kushalappa.
Z.P. CEO Anand Prakash Meena said that the work was done in three phases and funds have been provided for the JJM drinking water supply.
Speaking on the occasion ZP CEO said that a report will be submitted on the spot to see where there is a problem regarding JJM.
Executive Engineer Bhaskar of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department gave information and said that the JJM project has been implemented in three phases. In the first phase, 188 works have been undertaken, with an estimated cost of Rs. 13,517 lakh. He said that 185 works have been completed.
In the second phase, 129 works have been undertaken, with 85 works completed. It has been estimated at Rs. 9092 lakh. He said that
In the third phase, 457 works have been undertaken, with 348 works completed. He informed that 107 works are in progress.
The executive engineer explained that the work has been carried out at a total cost of Rs 23,218 lakh out of an estimated cost of Rs 35,869 lakh.
Legacy waste management Project, Madikeri
MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, expressed his displeasure over the fact that no work has been done so far, for the legacy waste management project at Madikeri. He directed that the work be started as soon as possible.
Nagesh Kundalpadi questioned the officials as to why the permission from the Forest and Environment Department has not been obtained, since the Disha Committee meeting was held many months ago.
The MP said that the attention of the Forest and Environment Department will be drawn for the permission.
Speaking on the occasion, DCVenkat Raja said that tenders were issued 5 times for the disposal of garbage, but no one came forward.
MP instructed BSNL engineers to take necessary steps, including the construction of towers in places where there is demand in the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, and providing continuous internet connectivity.
BSNL officials should take care of many other tasks, including identifying land for the construction of towers and obtaining permission. MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar suggested that the public should be given proper information in the office.
Speaking on the occasion, committee member Rakesh said that many villages including Birunani, T. Shettigeri, B. Shettigeri, Hudikeri, Belur, and Koothi in Ponnampet taluk are still suffering from lack of mobile network. He requested that this matter be addressed. Speaking on this, District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said that internet connection should be provided continuously through BSNL. This is a government institution and BSNL facilities should reach even the villages.
The MP, who received information regarding the roads of the Public Works Department, said that proper road maintenance should be done. He instructed the Public Works Department engineer to cut down branches of trees on the roadside. Similarly, the roads of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana should be developed. The MP instructed that the works already undertaken should be completed by the end of June.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagesh Kundalpady pointed out that the Karike Bhagamandala Road should be improved.
Stock should be made to avoid problems with sowing seeds and fertilizers during the monsoon season. The MP directed that attention should be paid to ensure that there is no shortage of sowing seeds for paddy and musukina jola.
Chandrashekhar, Joint Director of the Agriculture Department, said that the necessary stock has been made for the demand of fertilizers including urea, DIP, MOP, complex, SSP for the current monsoon season. Similarly, steps have been taken to supply 1700 quintals of seed for paddy and sorghum.
A target has been set for the distribution of a total of 1708.26 quintals of paddy and sorghum seeds in the 2025 monsoon season.
Paddy and sorghum are the major agricultural crops in the district, he said. Paddy sowing and planting will start from the end of June and will be carried out in July and August, while sorghum sowing will be carried out in June.
