American Doctors Mira Wells, Dr. Shubha Verma and team have donated oxygen concentrators to Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, Madikeri under the “Oxygen for India” program during the COVID-19.
In this regard, Dr. Mira Wells’ husband, Courtland (Director IBM), a retired IAS officer, A.K. Monnappa, and local doctor Dr. Sannuwanda Kaverappa visited Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, Madikeri recently.
During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2021, alumni of the 1984 batch of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, formed a group called Oxygen for India to support COVID-affected people across the country.
Dr. Shobha Chottera and former IAS officer A.K. Monnappa contacted Dr. Sannuvanda M. Kaverappa from Napoklu and inquired about the need for oxygen concentrators in Kodagu.
Following this, Dr. Kaverappa contacted the then District commisioner Charulatha Somal and the Dean of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences and expressed interest in the need for the equipment. Under the leadership of Dr. Mira Wells, a renowned medical expert from the United States, 53 oxygen concentrators were donated to the Kodagu Medical College on May 23, 2021.
In this regard, Dr. Lokesh A.J, Dean and Director of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the team.
On this occasion, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Sathish, Principal of the Institute Dr. Vishal Kumar, Chief Administrative Officer of the Institute Rohini were present and had a cordial interaction with the team.
Discussions were held on foreign health technology and the growth and needs of the health sector in this country. On behalf of the Kodagu Medical College, Dr. Kaverappa thanked Dr. Mira Wells and sought continued support for the Rural Medical College in the future.
