Justice B.A. Patil, the chairman of the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Special Court said that the officials of the concerned departments should pay attention to protecting government land by getting information about the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act and related acts.
Justice B.A. Patil, was speaking after participating in a workshop on the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act and related acts held in the Zilla Panchayat Hall, Madikeri in collaboration with the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Special Courts, Revenue Department, District Legal Services Authority and Kodagu District Administration recently.
Land grabbing has been going on continuously and it is very important to prevent land grabbing. Ithis regard, B.A. Patil said that it is the responsibility of various departments to ensure that government land is not encroached.
Wherever land is encroached , there will a dispute, B.A. Patil asserted that land encroachment has not stopped even though there are many laws.
In recent times, land amnesty has increased due to skyrocketing of land prices. Everything including Gomal, Kerekate, Hallakolla, Rajakaluve( Storm Water Drains) is being encroached. He said that it is the responsibility of various department officials to stop this.
Despite various laws including the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, land encroachment is happening. The main reason for this is that the punishment is very less. Even if there is a three-year jail term and a fine of Rs. 25,000, people are moving forward with land encroachment. They sell the encroached property. In this regard, buyers should think about it. They should also review it. It is not right to just buy land all at once, B.A. Patil advised.
Speaking on the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya informed that no one can forget that Kurukshetra was fought for land. Since time immemorial, wars have been fought for water and land. Therefore, it is the duty of the officials to protect government land.
By protecting the natural wealth of the Cauvery river basin and the Malnad region, it has been possible to provide water and food to crores of people. Therefore, everyone should think about this. The Additional Deputy Commissioner called for saving nature.
He said that due to the increased rain in the Malnad region, all the people of the entire South India are benefiting directly and indirectly.

Hosamani Pundalik, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, spoke and said that there are two types of law, one is man-made law and the other is nature-given rules. The rules of the Constitution are law in a system and it is essential for everyone to follow this. Narayanaswamy, Deputy Director of the Land Records Department, spoke and said that a survey is done for a specific area, boundary area, road, etc.
Survey work was done from 1863 to 1879, and a survey was done from 1906 to 1912 to determine the border villages. Government land is surveyed through mapping, contour mapping, B.Kharabu, village maps, etc. In recent times, technology has been adopted and survey work is immediately identified through technology, he said.
There was not much land grabbing and land encroachment before independence. Land encroachment is happening more and more after independence. In that regard, a law was implemented to prevent land encroachment of government land, he said.
School-college, hospital, Anganwadi, government office buildings, police station, etc., require land for everything, he said, and at least a little land should be saved.
Survey records are accurate and have high recognition. Therefore, everyone should take the lead in saving government property, said L. Narayanaswamy.
Palayya, Revenue Member of the Karnataka Land Encroachment Prohibition Special Court, spoke about 192(A) and said that there should be clear information about the location, date, and land survey.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Shubha, speaking on the occasion said that encroachment on lake banks and construction of houses is seen in many places. They feel sorry when the rains come. Therefore, lakes, banks and canals should be saved as per the Karnataka Lake Conservation Act. This will help in water conservation, she said. Land grabbing is increasing due to intense urbanization, industrialization and population explosion and she added that this needs to be curbed.
Groundwater is decreasing due to the destruction of water sources. He expressed concern that in the coming days, a situation may arise where people may have to drink water in bottles.
Municipal Revenue Officer M.A. Tahir spoke and said that encroachment on roads, markets, parks and property protection is being seen in the local body areas. He said that local bodies are taking steps to prevent it.
Regarding Madikeri CMC, he said that the main thing that has been cleared on the main road of Mahadevpet, as well as the widening of College Road, should be cleared with necessary documents. Six encroached houses have also been cleared in the Jalasharya Badavani. Similarly, an encroached house has been cleared on Mysore Road. Thus, the municipal council is moving towards conserving government land, he said
