The Kodagu district administration has given time till February 10 to the Sri Maha Mrithyunjaya Temple Committee of Kattemadu in Madikeri Taluk as the committee was unable to take a final decision in the meeting held on Jan. 5 regarding the dress code.

The temple committee president and office bearers met the Deputy Commissioner (DC) recently and presented the report of the meeting held on January 5 and gave some reasons for not being able to take a final decision.  Since the committee asked for one month’s time to clear the confusion theDC has given time till February 10.

Until that period, the situation in the temple area will continue as it was there from last seven days. The restriction imposed under Section 163 will be discussed with the police authorities and the further decision will be taken. The Deputy Commissioner has made it clear that law and order will be maintained in the temple area in such a way that the daily worship of the temple and the devotees will not be disturbed.

On the occasion, speaking to reporters after submitting the report to the Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Temple Committee Chairman Shashi Janardhan said that in the committee meeting which was held on January 5, it was proposed to allow only local villagers to wear traditional dress on the last day of the festival. But 13 out of 44 people in the meeting expressed their opposition and demanded that all the people of the district should be allowed to wear traditional dress. Therefore, the meeting could not come to a final decision on the dress code, he informed.

At present the committee is committed to continue the same procedure as early in the temple. Now the DC has given time till Feb 10, to come to final conclusion and Shashi Janardhan thanked the district administration for giving some more time to sort out the problem.
