On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, a program to create awareness among Anganwadi workers, mothers of children and teenagers about the importance of the girl child was held at Guddehosur Community Hall recently in association with the Kodagu District Administration, Zilla Panchayat (ZP), District Legal Services Authority, Child Development Planning Department and Women and Child Development Department, Literacy and School Education Department under Mission Shakti Yojana-Beti Bachao-Beti Padao Scheme.
After inaugurating the programme, Soumya, Guddehosur Gram Panchayat (GP)President said that it is ironic that children nowadays are obsessed with mobile phones and do not pay much attention to reading. Speaking further she said that children who grow up in had is environment need to know more about the importance of education. Parents should give more encouragement to children’s education and added that this will help the children to get good jobs in their future.
Program Resource Person Keshini S.R.said that girls should not be deprived of education. Emotional and mental changes happen during college days, but more emphasis should be given to education and must be involved in all regular activities in college. Speaking further Keshini informed how girls are facing many problems in public places and suggested how to protect themselves from those problems.
When girls get education, they can build a better society and added that one can lead a financially self-sufficient life when they get a good job after realizing the importance of education in their life and to make changes in the society.
Speaking on the occasion Matrivandana coordinator Navya A. said that in the Women and Child Development Department, the Pradhan Mantri Matruvandana scheme is a centrally funded to improve the health status of pregnant women, and the second girl child.
