Elephant drowns in lake

An elephant believed to be 10 year old and a member of a herd that had been camping on a coffee plantation in Hosuru Bettageri village drowned in a lake recently. It is reported that the elephant is said to have slipped into the lake when it went to drink water. The body of the animal was removed by the forest department personnel, who were alerted by the labourers.

An autopsy was carried out by wildlife veterinarian Dr Chittiyappa. Virajpet DCF Jagannath, ACF Gopal, RFO KV Shivaram were present during the operation.
