The tender process for the construction of the much-awaited Mysore-Kodagu four-lane road has been completed and the work will begin soon after the land acquisition is completed.
Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the four-lane road work planned to be constructed under the Bharatmala Project Phase-I programme.
4,129 crores for a total length of 92.3 km starting from Srirangapatna’s Paschimvahini and ending near Guddehosur Basavanahalli near Kushalanagar. The tender process of this mega project has already been completed and the land acquisition work has started.
Tender Closing for Four Stages:
The project consists of 5 phases and aims to build a separate four-lane highway from Madikeri to Srirangapatna. Initially, the 92.3 km road will be constructed from Srirangapatna to Basavanahalli in Kushalanagar, which will be divided into four phases. In another phase, road construction will be done from Basavanahalli to Madikeri. The tender process for the first 4 phases has already been completed and the contracted organizations have made all preparations for the commencement of work. As the land acquisition process is completed, the road work will also start soon.
What are the first 4 steps?
A total of 5 phases of work have been identified as P1, P2 and so on up to P5. P1 is the work from Madikeri to Basavanahalli. The tender process for this work is yet to be done. P1 work will be taken up after completion of work from Kushalanagar to Srirangapatna.
Accordingly, P-5 is the work from Srirangapatna West Channel to Ilawala KR Nagar Road Junction up to 18.98 km. An organization has got the tender for this work for Rs 690.30 crore.
P-4 is a 26.5 km road from Ilawala KR Nagar Junction to Hunsur KR Nagar Road Junction and the tender for this work has been received by the same organization for Rs 650 crore.
The P-3 work is 24.1 km from Hunsur KR Nagar road junction to Hemmige village on Piriyapatna-Hasanroad and this work has been awarded to another firm for Rs 575 crore.
P-2 works 22.7 km from Hassan Road Junction, Piyapatnaand will reach Guddehosur near Basavanahalli in Kushalanagar. An organization has got the tender for this work for Rs 585.84 crore.
Not a Highway Extension: It’s a New Road
Earlier there was a plan to widen National Highway 275 on both sides. If NH 275 is to be widened, RMP and Forest Department should provide land. As this is a long-term process, the existing road widening project has been abandoned. Instead, a whole new expressway project has been undertaken. The road will connect with National Highway 275 at only a few places, while the rest will be a completely new road bypassing all major towns.
