The tiger that had claimed the life of a cowherd named Muzeed Rehman a native of Assam at NitturJagale village in Ponnampet of Kodagu district recently has been successfully captured by the Forest Department officials.
Muzeed Rehman, was attacked when he was grazing a cow and following his death, the officials had taken up an operation immediately to capture the tiger. With the help of Mathigodu elephant camp elephants Bheema and Kusha, Hunsur wildlife division veterinarian Ramesh successfully traced the hideout of the tiger.
Later, sitting on an elephant, Ramesh successfully tranquilised the tiger. Though it ran from the spot, it fell unconscious later. The captured tiger has been sent to the Koorgalli rehabilitation Centre near Mysuru.
The menace of wild animals has been on the rise in the district, with seven lives having been lost since January. Of this, six died of elephant attacks in the district.
