A thrilling week-long River Rafting Training Expedition was conducted from 20 to 26 September 2025 for the cadets and staff of Sainik School Kodagu at Kaveri and Barpole River. This initiative marked the first-ever exposure of the school community to the sport of white-water rafting.
The training was conducted by a 48-member team from the elite Army Rafting Unit, led by Colonel B N Jha. Renowned for their international exposure and operational expertise, the team is currently undertaking the southern leg of their national training programme. Team of 48 Members including Lt Col Sachin T Nikam, Lt Col Edvin Lincken, Maj R Abhishek, Sub Abraham, Sub Shiv Kumar, Nb Sub P Mohapatra Nb Sub Ravi DR Â was hosted at the Sainik School Kodagu campus, facilitating close engagement with cadets and staff. Having already completed training phases in Kerala over the past three months, the unit is now stationed in Karnataka.

A total of 141 cadets-comprising 107 boys and 34 girls-participated in the training, alongside 18 staff members (13 male and 5 female). The training sessions covered essential rafting techniques, river safety protocols, and leadership development through team-based water activities on the Kaveri River.
Senior leadership from the school, including Colonel Amarjeet Singh, Principal, Wing Commander Prakash Rao, Administrative Officer and Squadron Leader Mohammad Shaji, Vice Principal, actively witnessed the training sessions, commending the professionalism of the Army Rafting Unit and the enthusiastic participation of the cadets.
The expedition not only introduced cadets to an exciting adventure sport but also promoted essential life skills such as resilience, courage, and teamwork. The opportunity to interact and train with an internationally experienced Army unit provided a unique and inspiring learning environment for all involved.
