Attending a function in Little Flower School, Boxing Ring, at Gonikoppa recently, international boxer and main coach of the Olympic boxing team Chenanda Kuttappa expressed his opinion, that it is a good development that Kodagu Boxing Association (KBA), which started as a wing of Kodava Samaja Ponnampet, under the leadership of Colonel Cheppudira Muthanna, Chovanda Aiyappa and Katimada Jimmy Aiyanna, has been producing good boxers in the district. He said this while inspecting the new boxing ring constructed in Little Flower School Complex in Gonikoppa. An estimated seven lakhshave been spent in creating this boxing facility with donations from Boxing enthusiasts and Brig Maletira A Devaiah. He said that the contribution of ‘Little Flower School’s’ management under President Patrapanda Chinnappa and Secretary Kuppanda Ganesh is commendable.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor to Kodagu Boxing Association, Katimada Jimmy Aiyanna said, that due to the untiring efforts of DeyandaMedappa and T P Sharath, the association had bagged many national and state level medals. He also mentioned that 40 odd children from ‘Lions, Appacha Kavi, Sai Shankar and St Anthony’s Schools’, were receiving regular coaching in boxing at this boxing ring. He expressed hope that more children from other schools from in and around Gonikoppa would also join in.
He mentioned that M B Prajvala, M S Prajval, U R Mandanna and U N Archana had represented Kodagu district and won medals at national level boxing events.
Puttumane Smaran Subhaash, Honorary Secretary of Kodagu Boxing Association, Treasurer Ainanda Mandanna, and Director C P Bopanna were present on the dais.
