Kodagu University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Sangappa Alura said that Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, with its rich historical legacy, had provided quality educational opportunities to thousands of students and assured full cooperation for the institution’s continued development.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 77th anniversary celebrations of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College held at the college auditorium on Tuesday. Prof. Alura said that the college had successfully completed 77 meaningful years and earned a distinguished place in the field of education despite various limitations. He appreciated the institution for creating opportunities for students to build successful futures.
He further stated that the college should continue to enhance its prestige and reputation across the country in the coming years. In this regard, he urged students to respect their teachers and extend full cooperation towards the progress of the institution.
Journalist H.J. Rakesh, speaking on the occasion, wished that the prestigious institution would go on to celebrate its 200th anniversary and urged students to support the lecturers and administration in achieving greater heights.

Journalist G.V. Ravikumar said that the youth constitute the backbone of the country’s all-round development and progress. He observed that young people possess the energy, creativity, enthusiasm and innovative ideas required to bring about positive social change. He advised students to listen to the guidance of elders, remain dedicated to their goals, avoid laziness and strive for excellence in their chosen fields so as to earn recognition in society. President of the Alumni Association of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, Bollajira B. Ayyappa, described the institution as a “college of achievers” and expressed pride in its legacy. He noted that since its establishment in 1949, the college had produced achievers in various sectors including politics, the armed forces and the police department.
College Principal Major Prof. Raghav B. stated that both teaching and non-teaching staff had worked collectively to enhance the institution’s reputation. He also acknowledged the support extended by donors and the alumni association and said that every individual should strive to make life meaningful through service to society.
C.G. Vinayak, Divisional Manager of the Canara Bank Regional Office, also addressed the gathering and conveyed his best wishes to the students.
The programme was attended by Kodagu Examinations Department Special Officer Mechira Ravishankar, IQAC Coordinator Prof. K.P. Nagaraj, Student Union office bearers K.T. Varsha, K.D. Impana, Nilisha Jojo, B.M. Vandana, S. Sreenanda, NCC leader K.M. Thimmaiah, B.L. Charishma Rai, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and office bearers of the alumni association.
Srinand compered the programme, while Students’ Association Advisor Prof. Sridhar Hegde welcomed the gathering. Prof. Alok presented the academic report of the college and K.T. Varsha proposed the vote of thanks.
On the occasion, students and achievers who had excelled academically were felicitated and honoured. Prizes were also distributed to winners of various competitions. The cultural performances presented by students after the formal function drew appreciation from the audience.
