Dr. Shubha K.G., Senior Medical Officer, AYUSH Department, Madikeri, cautioned that excessive use of technology could adversely affect mental activity. She was speaking at a workshop organised under the joint auspices of the Women’s Unit of Kodagu University Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College and the Departments of Sociology and Political Science, as part of International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, on the theme “Healthy Habits – Happy Life”.

Dr. Shubha noted that over dependence on digital tools, including AI platforms, may negatively impact cognitive functions. She advised students to use such technologies judiciously while prioritising mental and physical well-being.

Emphasising the importance of nutrition, she encouraged young women to consume healthy, seasonal foods and maintain proper dietary habits. She also warned that excessive mobile usage could significantly impact physical health.    Reflecting on traditional lifestyles, she observed that earlier generations maintained better health due to stronger adherence to cultural practices. She stressed the importance of self-care, stating that individuals must take responsibility for their own health.

Dr. Shubha also highlighted the relevance of Ayurveda in modern times and spoke about the use of locally available medicinal plants.

Mepadanda Savita Kirtan from the Department of Women and Child Welfare addressed issues such as youth addiction, misuse of mobile phones, and the importance of making informed life choices. She also spoke about “Akka Pade,” a special police initiative for the safety of women and children in Karnataka.

College Principal Maj. Gen. Prof. Raghava B. remarked that Women’s Day should not be confined to a single day and emphasised the growing role of women across all sectors.

Women’s Unit Coordinator Prof. Nayana Kashyap highlighted the evolving challenges faced by modern women and stressed the need to maintain a balance between mental and physical well-being.

On the occasion, women sanitation staff of the college were honoured for their dedicated service. Students also took a pledge to lead a healthy and disciplined life. The programme began with a prayer by Sapna Sheth and Chondamma Prathiri. Prof. Gayatri Devi welcomed the gathering, Dr. A.N. Gayatri delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr. Shrungar compered the event. Faculty members and staff were present.
