Madikeri Dasara has its own rich history, and in that context, Dasara culture and folklore should be preserved and further developed, said A.S. Ponnanna, Chief Minister’s legal advisor and MLA. Despite the rain, the Dasara festival has received a positive response, with a large number of citizens participating, he added.

A.S. Ponnanna noted that it is commendable that Dasara has drawn significant participation in Madikeri and Gonikoppa. He said that Janapada Dasara serves as an excellent platform to showcase local cultural heritage, rituals, and art forms.   Farmer Bhagirathi Hulitala spoke about the enduring appeal of folk songs and stories, saying that they touch the hearts of all and leave a lasting impact on the mind. He added that singing folk songs with genuine emotion continues to be popular today and will remain memorable for future generations.

Sadanand Mavaji, President of Karnataka Semi-Language Culture and Sahitya Academy, expressed that it is remarkable that Madikeri Dasara is celebrated with great enthusiasm year after year. He appreciated the emphasis on folklore and highlighted that Madikeri Dasara began with the Karaga Utsav and now includes various other Dasaras, such as women’s, children’s, youth, and coffee-themed celebrations. He emphasized that the Karnataka Semi-Language Culture and Sahitya Academy has focused significantly on promoting semi-language art and culture, and efforts are being made to elevate it further.

Mahesh Nachaiah, President of Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, observed that India is a multi-cultural and multi-heritage country and that unity in diversity is reflected even in the national festival of Dasara.

B.G. Ananthashayana, President of Kodagu District Folklore Council, urged everyone to participate in preserving and developing the traditional folk Dasara. He stressed that folk art and culture have deep historical roots and must be safeguarded and promoted.

H.T. Anil, Coordinator of Folklore Dasara, requested that space be allocated for a Folklore Museum in Kodagu district, which would also support the development of tourism.

Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi, Vice President Mahesh Jaini, and City Dasara Committee Working President B.K. Arun Kumar addressed the gathering. Other attendees included Dasara Cultural Committee President Kudekal Santhosh, Lok Parishad Taluk Unit President Chandramohan, Prakash, Tony Thomas, Sujaladevi, Prashanth, Sarvodaya Samiti President Ambekal Kushalappa, and Kannada Awareness Committee Member Lokesh Sagar. Muneer Ahmed, General Secretary of the Folklore Council, welcomed the participants, and Khajanji Sampath Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
