Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, Chairman of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) while speaking at a press conference in Madikeri announced that CESC has implemented necessary precautionary measures during the monsoon in Kodagu district. Due to heavy rains along with storms in Kodagu district, damage to electricity poles and transformers is being observed. Therefore, action is expected to be taken to replace electricity poles and transformers at the appropriate time.
He also stated that, last year, more than 4 thousand poles were damaged during the monsoon, as well as many electricity transformers, and repair work were done within 24 hours and added that more linemen and gangmen have been deployed to avoid power outages during the monsoon and to respond to the public.
Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda further announced that precautions have been taken to ensure that there is no disruption in power supply. Smart phones have also been distributed to linemen this year. A toll-free number is also being provided so that the public can provide information regarding power outages.
More than 650 electric poles have been replaced during the pre-monsoon season and all precautions have been taken to ensure that there will not be any much problems regarding power supply.
He stated that officers and staff at all levels under the CESC department will work in coordination and will gain everyone’s confidence to ensure smooth functioning.
The construction of a sub-power unit in Madapura will commence in a week. Similarly, the construction of a sub-power unit in Murnadu and Hudikeri has already been started, Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda said.
Responding to a journalist’s question regarding the free supply of 10 HP electricity to farmers in Kodagu district, the President stated that discussions were held with the Minister and MLAs regarding this and a solution is expected to be provided as soon as possible.
He also announced that CESC is intended to appoint linemen and Gangmen and announced that a toll-free number is expected to be available from June 01.
On the occasion kits were distributed to the linemen. Superintending Engineer Somashekhar, CESC Executive Engineer M. Ramachandra, Executive Engineer of the Major Works Department, Engineer Madesh and others were present during the event.
