M.H. Suryanarayana, a member of the High Power Committee for Regional Imbalance Remediation, held a long discussion with the concerned departmental officials and representatives of various organisations on regional imbalance. The meeting was held recently at the Madikeri  Z.P.KDP hall, information was received regarding the re-examination of regional imbalance in Karnataka.

According to the Nanjundappa report, information was collected  about the elimination of imbalance between districts in education, health, employment, social and economic conditions, agriculture, industry, and other aspects.

With reference  to the Nanjundappa report, the districts belonging to the erstwhile Bombay Presidency, Hyderabad Karnataka, Kodagu and the old Madras Presidency in the state are diverse. Nanjundappa reported that there are inter-district imbalances in this region as well, and said that the committee needs to address such imbalances, especially the disparity between the south and north of Karnataka.

The Nanjundappa committee has been asked to suggest a suitable strategy for the development of districts/regions that are lagging behind other districts to reduce inter-district and inter-regional disparities in development indices, he said.

Suryanarayana explained that it includes many factors such as agriculture, horticulture, food grain growing area, commercial crop area, net walled area, fertilizer per hectare, number of tractors per lakh population, live stock units per lakh rural population, per capita bank credit for agriculture, etc.

He said that sensitive indices such as industry, trade and finance, hotels, transport connectivity, business, post office, telephone connectivity, electrification, agriculture and non-agriculture, market, literacy rate, hospital, drinking water connectivity, sex ratio, urban and rural population, condition of workers have been mentioned in the Nanjundappa report.

Speaking on the occasion , Z.P. CEO Anand Prakash Meena said that in order to eliminate regional imbalance, progress should be made in achieving development in various sectors including education, health, employment, agriculture, horticulture, trade and commerce. He suggested that information should be provided to complement development in this regard.

The Z.P. CEO further said that efforts should be made to eliminate regional imbalance and achieve progress in other sectors including education and health in the society.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Raghava, Principal of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, said that economic and social progress should be made. Efforts should be made in this regard. In addition, he said that further progress can be achieved if everyone gets employment.

RCH officer Dr. Madhusudan said that more attention should be paid to health in the houses and line houses. There are many facilities provided by the government regarding health, and they should be utilized properly.

Rotary organization director H.T. Anil  speaking on the occasion said that  there is an imbalance in the number of workers in the district. There are more migrant workers than local workers. In the last 2 years, more than 1 lakh workers have come to Kodagu from other states. This number has all the possibilities of causing problems for Kodagu itself one day. He suggested that steps should be taken by establishing suitable industries in areas like Kushalnagar, Gonikoppa, and Somwarpet to provide employment opportunities to local workers in the district.

Bus service should be provided to students on time. Teachers should be assigned on the Kerala model, Rangadhamappa requested.

Integrated Tribal Development Project Officer S. Honnegowda spoke and said that development and skill development programs should be organized for the tribals and the people of Haadi. Residential houses should be provided for the teachers of the residential school.

Z.P. Deputy Secretary Abdul Nabi, Z.P. Project Director Jeevan Kumar, BCM Department Officer P.P. Kavita, Disabled Persons Officer Vimal, Naveen, Pawan Kumar, and others were present on the occasion.
