The Kodagu District BJP staged a road blockade protest in Madikeri, condemning the suicide case of BJP worker Vinay Somaiya.
BJP leaders and workers gathered at Madikeri General Thimmaiah Circle and shouted slogans against the Congress party and the state government.
They demanded the immediate arrest of the District Congress party spokesperson, whom Vinay had mentioned in his statement before committing suicide.
Speaking on the occasion, former Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the state government.
The police had tried to register a case under a different section after the court stayed the FIR registered against Vinay. The FIR was registered on the grounds that Vinay had shared a big mistake on social media about the unclean Napoklu public toilet. It is condemnable that the FIR was registered without taking action to clean the toilet. KGB reiterated that he police are acting on the behest of Congress MLA’s.
Speaking on the occasion, Kodagu District BJP President Napanda Ravi Kalappa said that “Vinay has nothing to do with the matter shared on social media. Today, an innocent person died, even though he was not in the wrong, the police registered an FIR. The Two MLAs of the district are misusing the Police Department. He also alleged that the FIR was registered against Vinay because the MLAs put pressure on them “.
Ravi Kalappa demanded that the two MLAs should resign and cooperate in the investigation regarding Vinay’s suicide case.
The protesters, who blocked the road for more than an hour, demanded that the District Superintendent of Police (SP) has to come and address them.
Later, S P K. Ramarajan, who reached the spot, said that Vinay had committed suicide in Bengaluru, and the police there had registered a case and were investigating. He said that the Kodagu police would fully cooperate in that investigation. Later, the BJP workers withdrew their protest.
District BJP General Secretary Mahesh Jaini, SC Morcha District President P.M. Ravi, Women BJP District President Anitha Poovaiah, members Suvin Ganapathy, Jagadish, Arun Shetty, Madikeri City Municipal Council members, Town BJP office bearers and activists participated in the protest.
The protesters then submitted a petition to DySP Pemmanda A. Suraj. Traffic were effected on the main road as Vehicles were blocked as the BJP members for an hour.
