Recently Humanity Charitable Trust (HCT) (R) legal wing head Monalisa Pattada, President Shivakumar Hootagalli and members of trust held an open discussion with the tribal leaders and the president of the forest committee and the residents of the tribal community about the problems and grievances of the Katte Hadi tribal communities in Ranga Samudra, Nanjarayapatna, of Kushalnagar.
Based on the information provided by the trust’s Kodagu in-charge and treasurer, Soumyashree of Hosakote, they visited Katte Hadi and discussed the infrastructure and development that are available under the law. Speaking on the occasion, the people of Hadi said that there is no protection for us here and whenever female members of our family are facing troubles, and when we go to the police station and complain, our complaints are not being attended to, they said.
Speaking further they informed that , so far no officials have visited Katte Hadi for last 10 years. The forest department officials were also have not visited and they have not provided us any protection from elephant attacks. They also complain that they are hesitating to go out during night time. The female members have expressed their lament that there is no toilets in the hadi. Speaking on the occasion, legal head Monalisa Pattada, a lawyer, said that we support the people of Hadi and the Kodagu police department should wake up from its slumber and provide protection to the people of Katte Hadi.
If the people of the Hadi go to the police station and the police is not attending or registering their complaints, the Hadi people should not worry, we will take up the matter to courts, Monalisa said.
The Kodagu district SP should immediately hold an open discussion with the residents of Katte Hadi, who are living in extreme poverty. The police officers should visit Kattehadi and create awareness about drugs, she said .
The president of the organisation, Shivakumar Hootagalli, speaking on the occasion said that we are not only with the residents of Katte Hadi but also with the tribal people of Kodagu.
We are standing with them and take legal action to help them in any corner of Karnataka. We do not belong to any political party. For us to give justice to the tribal people is our motto. We will talk to the MLA of this area, Dr. Mantar Gowda and inform him the problems of the tribal people. He further alleged that , the ITDP department officials are sitting with their eyes closed. The MLAs should visit all the Hadi’s. He also warned the officials that legal action will be taken on those, who were not listing to the problems of the hadi people
Speaking on the occasion, Soumyashree, the in-charge of Kodagu said that we will provide assistance to all the Hadi tribals from our organization.
The head of the organization, R.K. Chandru, spoke in detail about the problems faced by the Hadi people. The president of the Katte Hadi Forest Committee, Appu, was present on the occasion.
