Dr Anand, District Leprosy Control Officer speaking during the launch of Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2025 at the Zilla Panchayat office, said that nine cases were found in 2009-10. Last year, seven cases were detected and four cases have been confirmed this year and the persons are availing treatment. Total 64 persons were diagnosed with leprosy during the last 10 years.
Labourers come to Kodagu from Assam, Jharkhand, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Therefore, the detection of leprosy needs to be held on a war-footing basis.
Sparsh campaign is being held in this regard and will continue till February 13 across the district. A quiz competition is also being conducted for the high school students, he said.
