The district level flying squad’s operational quarterly meeting was held recently under the chairmanship of Kodagu Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) R. Aishwarya, who is responsible for controlling unauthorised lottery and matka in the district.
Speaking on the occasion at her office, she said that illegal lottery, other state lotteries and matka should be curbed in the district to a full extent. She said that if the public notices illegal lottery and matka business, they can inform the local police station or the official telephone number of the committee 08272-228678.
Aishwarya further informed that the committee should conduct a review to control the illegal lottery and matka trade and added that the lottery flying Squad committee should work in this regard.
She advised the Commercial Tax Department officer to check whether illegal lottery sales are going on while inspecting the business outlets.
Additional Superintendent of Police K S Sundarraj said that from January 2023 to September 2024, 49 cases of unauthorised lottery were reported in different stations of the district. He also informed that 6 matka cases have been reported.
He further said that there is a possibility of selling paper lottery in the interstate border area of the district and more police surveillance has been done in this area.
