Record 100th Book Launched by Codava Makkada Koota

Bachiranyanda Appanna, Senior literate from Kodagu speaking after inaugurating the release ceremony of the 100th book at Kodagu Pathrika Bhavan, Madikeri  said that “100th Mott”, a record of  the Kodava Makkada Coota organization, which is making a significant contribution to the literary field of Kodagu, opined that literature is a repository of knowledge that transcends language and caste. 

The field of literature, which is a repository of knowledge, has grown beyond language and caste. But in recent times the number of readers is decreasing and the writers are facing lack of encouragement. New writers should avoid about the fear that it will be difficult for them to grow among literary giants. Bachiranyanda Appanna advised young writers to come forward through good literature.

Speaking further Appanna said that the senior writers of Kodagu have contributed great books to the field of literature through their hard work. But these have disappeared today and should be made available to the readers again. Codava Makkada Koota organization is doing Sahithya Yagna in the district without expecting any profit. The 100th book has been released as a result of the continuous efforts of the president of the organization, Bollajira Ayyappa. Appanna said that the organization which is inspiring writers needs the encouragement from the people of Kodagu.

After releasing “100th Mott”, Kuppanda Chaya Nanjappa, Social worker and entrepreneur said that she is proud of Kodagu district, where Field Marshal K. M.  Cariappa and General K S Thimyya were born and the name of Kodagu is being now identified throughout the world. She also of the opined that books should be published in English along with Kannada and Kodava languages so that the great people, heritage, culture, customs and ideas of Kodagu can be introduced to the whole world.

There are people who buy books, but have no time to read. If we want to convey the value of our culture to the next generation, we need to inculcate the habit of reading and encourage children to read and write also and she added that authors should be encouraged by buying books and reading them.

Chaya Nanjappa expressed regret that today’s young generation is falling prey to drug addiction and advised them to read books to come out of depressions.

Editor of the book “100th Mott” and general secretary of Codava Makkada Koota Puttarira Carun Calaiah said that “100th Mott” is an ambitious book of CodavaMakkadaKoota, which has more than 45 articles in Kodava, Kannada and English languages. Kodagu culture, ritual, thought, tradition, Devanele, Ainmane, Mand, Prakriti, Kodava customs and many other ideas are included. He said that the works of many senior and junior writers including veteran writers Bachiranyanda Appanna, Ranu Appanna, Nagesh Kaluru, senior journalist B C Dinesh are written in the book “100th Mott”. 

Bollajira B. Ayyappa, President of Codava Makkada Koota, who presided over the program, said that in doing any good deed, there are more people who drag their feet than those who encourage them. But beyond all this CodavaMakkadaKoota organization has successfully organized many programs. It has released its 100th book today with its own contribution to the field of literature. He said that he will continue to encourage writers.

Codava Makkada Koota is constantly creating awareness and interest among the youth about Kodava culture. 4 thousand Autopot Padipu books have been printed and given to many children including schools and colleges for free. Awareness about Kodava culture has been created among the children by conducting continuous “Kid’s festival”. 

Bollajira Ayyappa further informed that a circle of “Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devaiah ” has been constructed at “Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devaiah” circle in Madikeri and a bronze statue of Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devaiah has been unveiled at the same place with the cooperation of Ajjamada family members.

On the same occasion, along with the book “100th Mott”, the 101st book of Kodava Makkada group is “Manasra Marel” written by writer Tennira Tina Chengappa, the 102nd book is “Manasra Jari” written by Periyanda Yashodha, the 103rd book is “ManasraTakk” written by Karavanda Seema Ganapathy and the 104th book is written by Aichanda Rashmi Medappa. A book composed “KodavadaNammenal” (Drama version) was also released.

Writer Tenneera Tina Changappa said that in the book “Manasra Marel” real events have been given the form of a story and requested to encourage writers by reading books.

Rashmi Medappa, writer of the book “Kodavada Nammenal” said that festivals and traditions are symbols of a nation. Language and culture are like two wheels of a cart, if one is damaged, the extinction of the race is certain. She expressed regret that Kodava language is also included among the 197 endangered languages according to the World Organization report. 

Periyanda Yashodha, writer of “Manasra Jari” and Seema Ganapathi, writer of “ManasraTakk” book spoke and praised the achievement of CodavaMakkadaKoota and the cooperation given to the writers.
