All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha Kodagu district president HV Shivappa addressing the media persons in Madikeri recently said that the district administration must comply with the government’s order to remove unauthorized structures on the land belonging to ‘Gadduge’, the tombs of Kodagu rulers, which are protected monuments.
He said years had passed since the court issued an order regarding the removal of encroachments and added that the district administration has not complied with the order.
The gadduge area, which includes the tombs of rulers like Veeraraja, Lingaraja and Rajaguru Rudramuni, spans over 19.86 acres. Of this, 1.18 acres have been encroached upon by 28 individuals who have constructed buildings, he alleged.
The government has issued an order on November 4. It clearly instructed that the encroachments must be removed within 15 days of receiving the order. The district and taluk administrations must act promptly, he urged.
