Kodagu District First Additional District and Sessions Judge Prashanti G. said that charges against the accused Hariprasad and Jayan, have been proved in the murder case of Kalgi Balchandra, who was the BJP leader of Kodagu from Sampaje.
The Judge Prashanti G. in her verdict ordered life imprisonment with a fine of 44 thousand rupees to both.
It has been reported that Kalagi Balchandra former President of Sampaje GP and BJP leader of Kodagu was killed in an accident of head on collision of omni van with lorry on March 19, 2019. Kalagi Balchandra was driving the omni van.
After investigation Madikeri police have arrested three accused Hariprasad (41) from Sampaje village and Jagan (40), a lorry driver from Gowlibeedi, Madikeri. Another accused, Sampath Kumar (34), a resident of Kallugundi near Sampaje,
Among the accused who were out on bail, Sampath was murdered in Shantinagar, Sullya. Kodagu District First Additional District andSessions Judge Prashanti G. said that the charges against the other two accused, Hariprasad and Jayan, have been proved and gave her verdict. Public prosecutor N P Devendra argued in favor of the government.
Balachandra Kalagi earlier had plans to make Sampaje an alcohol-free village and campaigned for this also. Kalagi strongly opposed the proposal to open a recreation club and liquor shop by the accused, submitting a letter of objection which angered the accused, leading them to plot the murder.
