CLN is delighted to publish Appanna Ajja’s appreciation of Naveen Thimmaiah’s comment on the article published on 8th September.
One must appreciate the all round education offers by teachers of that generation – not only academic, but concern for nature and maintaining the green landscape of Pommale Kodagu.
In the year 1985, concerned department was transplanting hundreds of plants in the vast compound of Junior college, Somwarpet , in the name of Vana Mahothsava – but not a single one survived. I collected a peepul tree seedling from a temple wall and planted it at the entrance of Junior college, with the assistance of Mr O.C Madappa and his son Thimmaiah, then a student. Father and Son carefully nurtured this plant, and at the time of my retirement, we three constructed a raised platform. Now, a big Peepul tree welcomes all at the entrance of the Junior College. I still remember the honest, obedient and disciplined student – Odiyanda Thimmaiah. I bless him.

What a beautiful exchange between a dedicated and passionate Teacher and a faithful student – the interaction is so genuine and as it should be between Guru-Shishya! Thank you for showcasing and providing a robust platform for such exchanges.
