H M Krishna, a social activist of the Madikeri has said that a large amount of waste accumulated in Madikeri Municipal Council area is being unscientifically dumped in Stone Hill area of Jyothi Nagar for last many years. This poses a danger to the Madikeri town one day and demanded that the city council must wake up immediately and take action to dispose of garbage in uninhabited areas.
He was speaking to reporters after submitting a letter of appeal to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard. Madikeri, which was a municipality, has been upgraded to a municipal council, but has not been able to solve the garbage disposal problem so far. Tons of garbage collected in the town is being unscientifically disposed off in the Stone Hill area where the drinking water tank is located. Apart from polluting the surrounding environment, the residents are facing the threat of infectious diseases from the waste dumped there he informed.
Due to the heap of garbage, this hill area may collapse one day. Before a disaster occurs, the Municipal Council should correct the technical obstacles of the area identified in the 2nd Monnangeri and take action for garbage disposal in a scientific manner. He said that he has requested that the Deputy Commissioner to take personal interest and intervene in this matter.
Recently, the disposal of garbage has become a problem in Siddapur Gram Panchayat too, and the villagers and various organizations are warning to hold a protest by placing garbage in front of the Gram Panchayat. He requested that the Gram Panchayat should immediately identify the government land or buy a private land and give a scientific solution to the garbage disposal.
