G. Rajendra, Editor-in-Chief of Shakthi Daily speaking on the occasion of ‘Press Day’ celebration at Gandhi Bhavan, Madikeri whichwas held in association with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Information and Publicity Department, Kodagu Universityand with local press organizations said that now a days artificial intelligence has entered the media sector also which impacts on the industry a lot.
Rajendra, opined that although artificial intelligence technology is useful in news editing, analysis, explanation, review etc. in various ways, it has the potential to make jobs difficult. As the modern world grows, new innovations are coming in the media sector, and in this regard, the media sector needs to be further strengthened after looking at the pros and cons, he added.
Speaking further he expressed that the media acts as a bridge between the administration and the society in a democratic system and media should be more objective and responsible.
Now a days we find media covering daily news analysis, review, commentary, editorial, sports, commercial, political, social, humanitarian writings but he opined that the role of media is important in shedding light on the good and bad in the society also.
He also informed that media plays an important role in delivering government schemes to common people and added that in today’s modern era, we are seeing media taking a step towards revolutionary change.
Due to hectic work pressure the quality of the language is also going down. More importance should be given to news accuracy and in most of the cases press reports are documented. Electronic news is instant news. Therefore, he said, one should be more careful while working in the media.
He further said that always news should be close to the truth and accurate news should be covered and there should not be any place for gossip.
Speaking on the occasion Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dr Venkat Raja said that many changes were seen in the media sector in the country today with the Bengal Gazette starting in the year 1780.
Media playing as a link between the government and common people and in this regard, the media has cooperated well with the district administration on various occasions. he added
During the monsoon, great care was taken to protect life of people and cattle and more awareness was given for property protection. In this regard, everyone should join hands with the district administration in taking Kodagu district to the path of development, he added.
Speaking on the occasion Additional Superintendent of Police Sundarraj said that there is a link between the media and the police department and added that the police department will get to know many information including crime news through the media.
He also said that nowadays social media gives more importance to rumors and he advised to be more careful about rumors since it spreads fast then truth. Therefore, the media persons should act transparently, impartially and must be voice of the people and media should play role of reforming the society, he added.
- P. Ramesh, the founder president of Kodagu Pathrika Bhavan Trust and former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, said that journalism was started earlier for the unity and freedom of the country. In this regard, one should put aside personal interest and perform their duty in a socially oriented manner for the benefit of the common people.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Korana Saraswati, Principal of Government First Class Women’s College, said that media plays the duty of watchdog in democracy and added that the role of media is important in maintaining harmony between citizens and ruling governments.
Cheena Somesh, the former president of the Working Journalists Association, said that in a democracy, legislature, executive, judiciary and press are the four pillars and they act as a link to build a strong democracy in India.
On the same occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of the essay competition organized for the students of the journalism department of the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa (FMKMC)College, Madikeri.
Chidvilas, editor of Shakthi daily, students of Journalism Department of FMKMC College, students of Government First Class Women’s College were present on the occasion.
