Inside the forest area in Kerala, just 15 km away from the forest area of Kodaguhigh-end explosives have been found recently by the Kerala Forest Department personnel during a patrol. They spotted the explosives in Thalapuzha Makkimala Kodakkad area in North Wayanad forest region.

On inspecting it, they found that the devices were made out of gelatin sticks, fuse wires and other explosive material.

Immediately the anti-naxal force of Kerala ‘Thunderbolts’-conducted a special combing operation with a bomb defusing squad and a dog squad. Kerala police have been investigating the case.

One-and-a-half months ago, there was a gunfire exchange between Kerala police and Naxals at a place 6 km away from where the explosives were found. This has supported the apprehensions about Naxals planting the explosives. The place is 15 km away from the forest area of Karnataka and 50 km away from the road.

As the Soma stream is in spate, it is impossible to cross it and the possibility of Naxals infiltrating into Karnataka is low, the sources said.
