After inaugurating 10th International Yoga Day celebration at Gowda Samaj, Madikeri Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Venkataraja said that yoga practice is necessary to achieve harmony between body and mind.
The programme was conducted in association with District Health and Family Welfare, Kodagu Medical Education, District Police, Youth Empowerment and Sports, School Education and Literacy, Social Welfare, Pre-Graduate Education, NSS and NCC Unit, Nehru Youth Centre, Kodagu Youva Okkuta, Indian Red Cross, Yoga Bharati, Pranava Yoga Centre, Patanjali Yoga Education, Art of Living, Scouts and Guides, Neema organization and various other government and non-government organizations with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society”
DC also said that health is a wealth and, in that regard, we must practice yoga which will be helpful in maintaining good health and added that by doing yoga and exercise one can keep fit fordoing their daily routine work and mental fitness.
District AYUSH Officer Dr. Renukadevi thanked officials of various departments of the government, staff, representatives of non-governmental organizations and also those who all joined hands with the district administration for the successful conduct the 10th International Yoga Day celebration.
Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer Varnith Negi, District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, Anitha Poovaiah, V T Vismayi, Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Field Education Officer Doddegowda, Neema District President Dr. Rajaram and many others participated in mass yoga.
Under the guidance of Yoga teacher Mahesh Kumar various Yogasanas were performed on the occasion. Surya Namaskara, Vrikshasana, Padahasana, Tadasana, Ardha Matsendrasana, Bhujangasana, Pavanamuktasana, Ushtasana, Vajrasana, Shalabhasana, Shashankasana, Mandukasana, Vakrasana, Makarasana, Setubandhasana, UthanaPadasana, Ardha Halasana’, Shavasana, Kapalbhati, Shitali Pranayama, Bhramari Pranayama, Dhyana, Nadishodha Pranayama and many other types of yoga were practiced.
Sinchana, a class 5 student of Madenadu BGS School, attracted everyone’s attention by performing yoga.
