Land conversion for commercial purposes should be stopped… Col Muthanna

Retd. Colonel C Muthanna, coordinator of the Save Kodagu and Cauvery campaign, speaking to media persons recently at Madikeri, expressed concern that land conversion for commercial purposes in Kodagu is affecting the water bodies and the inflow of water into the Cauvery River is decreasing. 

He also said that Bengaluru city is suffering from serious water problem and its citizens are suffering a lot due to uncontrolled urbanization and commercial land conversions going on in Kodagu.  

He made an appeal to Deputy Commissioner (DC) to immediately stop issuing commercial land conversion orders and added that also a decision should be taken not to issue NOC for conversion of land for commercial purposes in all Gram Panchayats. 

He warned the people of Kodagu that if they do not wake up, danger awaits very soon. He also alleged that many rich people from outside the state are encroaching on Kodagu and buying land to start resort and for other commercial activities and converting land for commercial purposes and destroying the beautiful nature of Kodagu.

Moduru Sivashankar, Gopinath Thimmaiah and Shyam Bopaiah were present in the press conference.
