The Coorg Wildlife Society (CWS) has successfully concluded its three-weekend-long plastic-free campaign at Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, coinciding with World Environment Week. The campaign, aimed at reducing plastic waste in the ecologically sensitive area, marks a significant step forward in the society’s ongoing two-year initiative to preserve Kodagu’s natural heritage.
In collaboration with the forest department, CWS has been proactively placing mesh bins and awareness boards at all four major entry and exit gates to the Kodagu district. The initiative included routine patrols and awareness drives to curb the menace of littering—particularly targeting single-use plastics and discarded alcohol bottles that pose a threat to wildlife and the ecosystem.

“We’ve been working tirelessly to educate visitors and ensure our forests stay clean,” said CWS committee member Navin Bopaiah. “Our goal is to make this forest 100% litter-free, and we encourage more people to join us in this mission.”

The organization has called upon nature lovers, volunteers, and the general public to support future efforts and continue spreading the message of sustainable and responsible tourism.
