As Kodagu is expected to receive heavy rains for the next two months, District In-charge Minister N.S. Bhosaraju has instructed officials to strengthen safety measures in flood-affected areas.
The district has been experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds over recent days, resulting in widespread damage. The Minister toured the affected areas, reviewed the situation with officials, and addressed the media.
He stated that the monsoon began in late May this year, causing various natural disasters that damaged homes, roads, and bridges. He assured that the Deputy Commissioner has sufficient funds in the PD account for disaster management and that the administration is taking steps to minimize public inconvenience.

The Minister announced that compensation for house damage has been disbursed and that permanent repair work will begin after the rains subside. He added that the extent of damage would be discussed with local MLAs and a detailed report would be submitted to the Chief Minister, with a request for additional funds.
The government has already allocated Rs 8,000 crore for development works, including Rs100 crore for Kodagu district. Minister Bhosaraju emphasized that both development and guarantee schemes are being given top priority.
During his visit, the Minister also expressed appreciation for the newly constructed municipal building in Kushalnagar, urging officials to work efficiently for the benefit of the public. Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda, who accompanied the Minister, criticized delays in issuing death certificates and stressed the need for timely public service in the digital era. The delegation also visited key flood-hit areas including the Cauvery suspension bridge, Chandrashekar’s house in Kushalnagar, and the damaged bridge near Rangasamudra. Officials present included Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja, ZP CEO Anand Prakash Meena, SP K. Ramarajan, and local representatives.
