Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot conferred the prestigious ‘Karunada Prabhu Kempegowda’ Award on BariyandaJoyappa for his contributions to literature during the 516th birth anniversary of NadaprabhuKempegowda at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru. The award includes a memento, a silver medal, and a cash prize of ?25,000. Speaking to the media, Joyappa said, “I am extremely happy to be honored with this award in recognition of my services to education and literature in rural areas.”
The event was attended by prominent personalities including former CM D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan, Prof. M. Krishna Gowda, Sri SriNirmalanandanath Swamiji, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, and former Speaker K.G. Bopaiah.
Joyappa served for 35 years as a teacher, headmaster, and principal at Maheshwar High School, Madenadu near Madikeri.
