The caste system must be eradicated from society, said Dr. Mantar Gowda, MLA from the Madikeri constituency and a medical professional. He expressed satisfaction over the absence of caste discrimination in the medical field, stating that it should serve as a model for broader societal change.
Dr. Gowda was speaking as the chief guest at the state-level symposium on Contemporary Crises and Challenges, held recently at the Bala Bhavan auditorium in collaboration with the Human Fraternity Forum, the Women’s Fraternity Forum, and other progressive organizations.

“In hospitals, doctors ask patients about their ailments – not their caste. Regardless of a patient’s caste, the focus is solely on diagnosis and treatment. This absence of caste-based discrimination in the medical field is commendable and should be reflected across all sectors of society. Social unity and progress can only be achieved by eliminating casteism,” he said.                                     The event was also attended by noted progressive thinker and senior journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu, retired professor Prof. Kale Gowda Nagawara, writer and academic Dr. Rajappa Dalwai, Mangalore Divisional Coordinator of the Human Fraternity Forum K.S. Satish Kumar, Women’s Unit Coordinator Dr. Leela Sampige, Kodagu District Coordinator J.L. Janardhan, Women’s Fraternity Forum District Coordinator Dr. Kaveri, Reception Committee Coordinator Neravanda Umesh, Honorary Coordinator RamanathBekal, and other prominent figures.
